Your Voice in Sacramento - Without a strong, forceful advocate working on your behalf in Sacramento, policymakers would ignore your voice, your expertise, and your practical experiences. CTA employs seven full-time education advocates to track legislation, to testify at committee hearings, and to work to ensure that your professional interests and rights are protected. Five additonal employeses work in the political arena.

CTA Communication Specialist - work with reporters and editors from the state's newspapers, television, and radio stations to keep the public informed about CTA's positions on major issues.

California Educator and NEA Today - keep you informed about policy decisions, legislation, accomplishments, and trends in education.

Protecting Your Rights - A primary focus of CTA is helping locals like ADTA negotiate good contracts. CTA employs 14 negotiation and organizational specialists. CTA also aligns with 100 UniServ representatives that help members handle grievances and arbitrations. As a member you are automatically covered by NEA's $1Million professional liability policy. CTA employs seven attorneys who stand ready to defend the right of members who are unfairly disciplined or dismissed. District legal action benefit all teachers in a district.. Statewide legal actions can benefit the entire public school system. In additon, CTA's Group Legal Service (GLS) offers you free consultations and discounted fees on almost every kind of personal legal need.

Your Right to be Represented - You have the right ot be represented by the association when: 1) an administrator calls a conference and you believe that you will be subjected to reprimand or disciplinary action. 2) you receive a "does not meet standards" overall evaluation rating. 3) you have a grievance. 4) a meeting has been arranged to resolve a complaint about you-if the complainant is someone other that your designated evaluator, and an administrator is to be present. Important Notice - An employee always has the right to halt any conference already in progress with any administrator, if the conference becomes disciplinary in nature, and may demand postponement for a reasonable amount of time to obtain representation.Contact you association faculty representative.
